Reiki, an ancient healing art, was discovered in the 1920s and developed into a modern health care practice by Dr. Mikao Usui of Kyoto, Japan. The system was passed, hand-to-hand, from Dr. Mikao Usui, to naval surgeon, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. Dr. Hayashi, in turn, passed the teachings down to a Japanese-American woman from Hawaii, Mrs. Hawayo Takata, who introduced the system to the West. Mrs. Takata taught John Harvey Grey (one of her original 22 Masters) who in turn passed the Usui Reiki tradition to Elaine J. Abrams and Brian Brunius of New York City.
Christopher Tellez studied under Elaine J. Abrams and Brian Brunuis and follows the traditional Usui teachings of Reiki passed through Hawayo Takata to John Harvey Gray to Elaine J. Abram and Brian Brunius. Both Reiki Masters are members of the Reiki Aliiance.
