Exploring the Life of Hawayo Takata
Through Historical Archive Collection
Program 10am to 5pm

Hawayo Takata was born on the island of Kauai in 1900. When she was a young widow with two daughters, she became ill. Her personal healing journey took her to Japan where she found a healing practice called Reiki and through her commitment and dedication, brought Reiki back to Hawaii. Often called the Usui System of Natural Healing, Takata shared this practice with the world until her death in 1980. It was through Takata's total commitment that Reiki is now known and practiced on every continent and country in the world.

I was invited by Kyleigh Omori, who studied Reiki with me over a year ago in San Francisco.  Kyleigh greeted me in Honolulu and gave me a traditional Lei. Kyleigh explained that a Lei is for “special occasions.”
