On August 10th to the 14th SF REIKI CENTER attended the 32nd Annual Northwest Reiki Gathering at Breitenbush Hotsprings. Susan Mitchell was our facilitator and leader. She attended Reiki One and Two here in San Francisco in the 1970s with Mrs. Takata (she is who brought Reiki to the West from Japan). Our time together was focused on Stories of our Reiki Families., "Connecting Through Oral Traditions."
70 Reiki students attended from all over the United States with about 35 Reiki Masters. We had group Reiki, did self reiki treatments, and had discussions on Oral Tradition. What I really loved about our time together is how Susan Mitchell (our facilitator) would lead us in discussion and ask a question, then we would do self reiki and ponder the question. She set down a microphone down on a cushion and if you felt called to, got uneasy, and or was pushed towards the microphone to speak on the question then you spoke. The dialogue was full of tears, laugher, smiles, head nods, and intimacy. We talked of our current Reiki stories, our experiences, what we have learned, and how we have grown throughout our time as Reiki students.
On the last day there were stories from those who had known Mrs. Hawayo Takata. I really enjoyed this part of the gathering. One of the quotes from Mrs. Takata "Reiki will teach you" really helped me realize that all I need to do is commit to my Reiki practice and that Reiki will guide me as long as I open my eyes and get out the way.
At the end of the gathering I talked with Susan and Paul Mitchell about coming to San Francisco and having a day with us to talk about their time with Mrs. Takata while they lived in San Francisco in the 1970s. They said they would love to home.
Every year in August the Northwest Reiki Gathering happens. SF REIKI CENTER will be there again in 2017. We hope you will join us in being with our global Reiki community.
