When the Whole World Needs Reiki: A Practice from My Teacher, Brian Brunius

Brian Brunius is my Reiki teacher. He founded the NYC Reiki Center, and the way we practice and teach at SF Reiki Center flows directly from what I learned in his classroom. When Brian writes something, I read it slowly.

This week he shared a piece about the Blue Earth Project, a world healing practice created by Reiki Master Marta Getty. The practice is almost startlingly simple: you hold a small blue marble — the Earth, resting in your hands — connect with Reiki, and offer one quiet intention of healing and reconciliation. You don't choose where the Reiki goes. You don't rank one crisis above another. You hold the whole thing, and you let Reiki do what it does.

I keep returning to one word in Brian's essay: reconciliation. Not agreement, not the erasing of differences — just the recognition that a relationship has been damaged, held alongside the possibility that it can be restored. Between nations, between neighbors, between ourselves and the Earth. That feels like something worth sitting with right now.

If you've ever asked yourself "what can I do?" — and lately, who hasn't — I hope you'll take a few minutes with Brian's words.

Learn the practice, live on Zoom

If the Blue Earth Project speaks to you, there's a way to go deeper. Chiara Corte and Raymond Brockotter — the two teachers now carrying Marta Getty's work forward — are leading an introductory gathering hosted by the NYC Reiki Center. They'll share the history of the project, teach how the practice works, and talk about joining a growing international community of practitioners. Students of all Reiki levels are welcome.
